Providing Bright New Beginnings To Displaced Golden Retrievers

Adopt Me!

Please note: The goal of WAAGR is to match Goldens with their forever families. If you are interested in adopting a Golden through WAAGR, please return to the previous Adopt Me! page.  There you will find out more information on adopting, including the adoption application.

Below are some of the dogs that are currently in the WAAGR Adoption Program.

WAAGR volunteers help former puppy mill dogs learn what a dog's life is really about!

Here is their story (even if they have been adopted, we still wanted to share their story):
We are some very beautiful dogs who have had a rough start to our lives.  We lived in a very small crate and had whatever food was available in our kennel.  We never had baths, petting, loving or kisses.  We were never able to fetch a ball or even learn what it was like to taste a treat.  It was very hot in the summer and cold in the winter, but we had a job and that was to have puppies.

Now, we have been saved by WAAGR!  It's a WHOLE new world and it is very scary.  People want to kiss us, pet us, love us, give us food in a bowl, throw a ball, and best of all, give us a treat!  This is great, but we have no idea what to make of this.  We want to run and hide, crowd in a corner with our puppy mill friends, and protect each other from this scary situation.

We know we can make it and it sure looks like a great place to live, but it will take time.  What would be an ideal place for us to live is a home that would have another dog for us to lean on and to show us that it is OK outside of our former home.  This dog could teach us how to do the things that we have never done and to hide behind for safety until we are comfortable.  We know that a fenced yard is a must, as if we get loose we would probably keep on running and never come back because we don’t understand.  We have had a very hard life and when you put your hand out for us to come to, just remember, we don’t know how just yet.

Please have patience and one day you will get that first kiss!

Here are the puppy mill dogs waiting for their forever homes!

Crystal (Lacey)- #8120
Crystal, formerly known as Lacey, needs a very special family that will give her time to readjust.  She is a 6-year-old girl who came from a puppy mill before being rescued by WAAGR.  She is very shy and timid at first and will need a few weeks to warm up to her new family.  She has been through a lot and will need lots of love and patience from her new family.  The person who updates our Web site has met her and she's fantastic!  She has an adorable face just waiting for her forever family to find her and fall in love.

Positive reinforcement and a gentle touch is a must.  Crystal needs a quiet household with another dog to bond with.  If you are willing to give her the time to get to know you and lots of love and praise, she will reward you ten-fold with her affection.  She loves attention and to be near you once you have earned her trust.  She is a very special dog looking for a very special family.

A forever home with no small children, a fenced yard, and at least one other dog in the house to feel comfortable are on Crystal's wish list.  She is fully vetted.  Contact WAAGR to find out more!

Lynn (left) - #8100 and Kellie - #899
Kellie is 2.5 years old, spayed and very, very shy.  She is learning what it is like to be petted and loved.  She walks very well on a leash.  These puppy mill girls never come when they are called, so a home with a fenced yard is a must, along with another dog who can teach them about a dog's life.

Lynn is a little more relaxed and explores a little more.  She is easier to catch in the yard and she likes to walk with a leash.  Both girls will run when spooked, but each day they will become more comfortable with their new lives.

Lynn (now Meg) and had quite the ordeal this winter.  She's back safe and sound now.  Read all about her story by clicking here to link to the Lakeland Times.

Buddy - #845
Buddy, who is now 2 years old, is back with WAAGR as he will do much better in a forever home without a man in the family.  Due to his past before he was rescued, he just doesn't bond well with men.  He will run away from them.  Buddy was rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri.

Buddy has no aggression and is very submissive to other dogs.  A forever home with another dog would be great as Buddy needs the companionship.  A fenced yard would be great too.

Bernie - #8137
Hi, I’m Bernie, a year old Golden/Springer mix.  I’ve been bouncing around since I was four months old looking for my forever family which has not found me yet!  Maybe YOU are my family!

About me:  I’m a handsome young guy who is all black with a little white heart on my chest.  I’m a high energy guy whose true love is bird watching.  I’ve been working on retrieving, walking on leash and social manners around the house.  I enjoy my doggie friends, but I’m working on controlling my puppy play.  I could play all day!  My foster mom says “I’m a work in progress.”  I’m house trained, have a microchip and  I’m fully vetted.

The truth is I’m just looking to get my right match, so I can start my new life or career as a sporting dog.  My dream home would be living as a family dog with experienced dog owners (kids over 12 please) who could give me positive training, patience, perhaps bird hunting experience, another balanced dog and most important, daily exercise!

My perfect forever home would include a fenced yard.  Continuing with dog classes with me also would be helpful.  I'm making great progress in my foster home, but my forever home needs to continue working with me.  It's a great way for me to bond with my new family and continue learning.  I know my perfect family is out there!

What are you waiting for?  Contact WAAGR to find out more about me and to fill out the application!

Clancey - #946
Clancey is an 8 to 9-year-old golden who came to us as a stray from northern Wisconsin.  He is one happy guy!  He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home.  He loves to express his feelings by barking.  He does pull on a leash, but we are working with him on that!

Since Clancey was on his own for a while, he will get the full doggy spa treatment while he's with us.  He will also be neutered and get his teeth cleaned.  He will be ready for adoption around April 28.  Because he is a stray he can't go to a family with kids under 12.  If you would like to find out more about Clancey, contact WAAGR today.

Goober - #975
Goober is a wonderful dog who needs a home that is gentle and loving.  He is a purebred, 15-month-old yellow lab that needed someone to help him out.  WAAGR was that someone!  Goober is VERY friendly, but is hesitant about learning new things, like walking on wood floors.  We
aren't sure if it is the floor, or if he was trained to stay in a certain area in his previous home.

He loves to be outside and play with his foster brother Scooter.  He has adjusted very well to the crew of dogs at his foster home, but sometimes will want to keep his toys
for himself.  Goober needs a gentle home where there isn't loud voices, as he tends to cowl even if the loud voices are not directed at him.  His foster home has not had behavioral issues with him.  Another dog for him to play with in his forever home would be wonderful!

He is fully vetted and ready to go!  Contact WAAGR to find out more about this handsome boy!

Buddy - #977
Buddy has made himself at home with his foster family, as you can see in the photo above.  Buddy is an owner surrender to WAAGR after his owner died.  He spent all his life with this owner.  He loves the kids and other dogs in the foster homes he has been with so far.  He is 13.5 years old.

Buddy is an amazing dog according to his foster mom.  He goes on two, thirty-minute walks with his foster mom every day and does well.  The 8-year-old in the family walks Buddy without any problems.  The only "problem" we have with him is that he's a leaner. He wants you to pet, hug, and love him at all times and he leans into you!  Typical golden!

He is not a counter surfer and doesn't beg!   Buddy would be great in a low-key or even a moderately active family.  Overall, he will make a fabulous addition to a home without cats or small children.

We found out that Buddy is Lyme positive and is being treated for it.  He's fully vetted and ready to meet his forever home!  Contact WAAGR today!

Tucker - #965
I am a 110 lb. black lab male that my owner surrendered, but I don’t know why.  I am eight years old, neutered and microchipped.  I am a true gentleman (no aggression seen whatsoever) that loves to sit near you.  I don’t require a lot of attention; however, I love to be brushed and petted anytime you want!  I even know the command shake!

My ears are a bit touchy, so please be careful when you rub them.  I am a happy guy who loves leisurely walks twice a day.  I take treats gently and enjoy meeting new people-I hardly ever bark!  I am housetrained and behave in the house alone.  One other thing you should know about me is that I don’t like to go into a crate.  I am a stay-in-the-house kind of guy.  I get along very well with my doggy friends at my foster home.

My foster family thinks I am the perfect senior dog and a great addition to a forever home!

Lucas - #983
Lucas is a 7-year-old golden/lab mix.  He is a stray after he was found wandering in a campground.  WAAGR stepped in to help the shelter that had him!

He is a very nice and well socialized!  He loves the other dogs in his foster home and loves to be with people.  He would do well in a home that is not too hectic!  If you are looking for a companion dog to hang out with and go on walks, Lucas is your man!

Lucas has tested positive for Lymes disease and is on medication to help with that.  He will be ready to go after June 25 and will be fully vetted!

Contact WAAGR to find out more about Lucas!

Jenny - #976
Jenny was an owner surrender to a shelter after her owner passed away.  If you are looking for a high energy dog that loves to play ball and give hi fives on your nose, Jenny is the one!  She is a lab/golden mix who is 2.5 years old.

She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home.  The only thing her family noticed if that another dog tried to take away her toy, she didn't like that!  Her foster family recommends a doggy class to help her learn doggie manners and bond with her forever family.  Older kids would be great in the family too.  She did test positive for Lyme disease and is being treated for it.

Jenny is fully vetted and ready to meet her forever home!

Keita - #973
I am a beautiful, early graying girl.  I love attention, am loyal and a great watch dog.  I am seven years old  and have hip dysplasia, but that doesn't stop me!  The hips are being managed by medicine and the vet said I am doing excellent on them.  I am running short distances - I have to keep up with my foster siblings!

I have lost 10 pounds at my foster home and am a slick 73 pounds!  Hey, walking a mile a day has its benefits!  Walking helps build my muscle strength so I rest a while and then I'm ready to go again.  The vet said I should lose at least another 5 pounds.  I will need a special family to make sure I stay slim and stay on my meds over the years.   The doctor said I am too old for surgery but that I am doing great now and they expect me to continue doing great.

My foster mom says I'm a wonderful and mellow dog.  I am fully vetted and would love to meet my new home.  Contact WAAGR today!
