Dogs Adopted in 2007
BEAR (formerly known as Badger)
WAAGR heard from Bear's forever home who gave a wonderful report on their new addition to the family.    Bear (the lighter dog pictured on top) is a good swimmer who also likes to ride in trucks on deliveries.  He plays well with his brother Buddee in the house.  He holds his own against his furry big brother.  Bear is a cuddly dog who has a wonderful home and his well loved by all.

WAAGR couldn't be happier for this lucky guy!  Thanks to his forever family for sending a great report!

CHARLIE
We adopted Charlie in May 2007.  He was a big, nervous dog.   Immediately he became attached to me, his doggie mom, which was just fine with me!  At first he had some issues with possessiveness with toys and was a bit unapproachable with our other dog, Maya.  Over time, the two dogs have bonded and get along very well.  We can now have toys in the house with no problems.  Charlie is sometimes a bit possessive about chasing tennis balls outside.  But for the most part, he is gentle and submissive, and very patient with Maya, who still has the spunk of a one-year-old.  She loves Charlie quite a bit and sometimes, can't leave him alone.  I think Charlie loves the attention.  He doesn't complain, even when she's jumping all over him when all he wants to do is lay down at my feet.

When he first came to live with us, he weighed about 89 pounds.  With regular walks, running and swimming at the dog park, along with a more balanced diet, Charlie now weighs in at a slim 76 pounds.  He looks and feels great!!  He is so active and happy.  Outside he loves to chase Maya and vice versa.  Swimming is his all-time favorite activity.  He will fetch a tennis ball thrown in the water for as long as you are willing to throw it.

Charlie has settled into our home quite nicely.  He is very social and always needs to be where the action is.   He is accepting of strangers and is very calm even when there is a lot of commotion around him.  Early on, we found out Charlie does not like to be crated, which is fine because he is perfectly happy and well-mannered when left alone.  He listens very well and is well behaved.  At night, he likes to sleep with our oldest daughter.

Thanks for this wonderful addition to our family!

SHAMROCK (formerly known as Zoey)

I thought it was time that we could finally write about our Happy Tails.  As many of you know Shamrock (aka Zoey) was a dog that no one would ever thought would ever find that forever home.  Fortunately for not only Shamrock but us, she has found that home in Illinois.  The first few months at Shamrock's new home were quite adventurous.  First she decided to break out a bedroom window and flee on the 4th of July.  Second, she tore apart the curtains and screens on the front living room window and fled again through a window due to the sounds of garbage trucks.  Now through all that Shamrock still has a home and a loving home at that.

Shamrock came to us in June and we were warned by Shamrock's foster home that she would be a handful.  Thank goodness for Faye DeGrand - she did tell us Shamrock was a handful, but did Faye back down and say “oh well she’s yours deal with it?”  Absolutely not!  Faye stood by us and gave us and Shamrock much needed support along the way.  If it were not for Faye’s love and support of not only Shamrock but us too, I am not sure where Shamrock would be today.  Thankfully all worked well and after five months with us, Shamrock is the calmest, most loving dog you could imagine.  Shamrock even will go outside with us without a lead and STAY right with us.  She is a great family dog and fits nicely with our boys and three cats.  Shamrock is very demanding about getting her time to play ball and could play ball all day and night if allowed!  Shammy is also a lover and a protector and a great companion to our family.

We must thank WAAGR along with Faye, Myra, Annie and Lianne for their never ending support and love of not only Shamrock, but us as Shamrock's family.  Thanks again to a bunch of great people helping us in finding our forever dog.

WILSON
Hi I'm Wilson!  As you can see I am making myself quite comfortable in my new home!  I bonded very quickly with my new mom, so much so that I had a great deal of separation anxiety at first when mom would leave me.  Fortunately, Bill Binder from WAAGR came over and gave us some tips, so I no longer get worried when mom leaves.

I have several acres to run and I'm having fun socializing with other dogs and humans (mom and her friends have play dates for us).  I get along with my sister Teddie just fine (she's a black lab/greyhound mix).  She can't play with me as much as I would like because she has a bad leg, but we have some fun together.

I have started obedience classes to boost my self-confidence - I am very smart and learn quickly!  Everyone is having fun trying to figure out my heritage - some think lab/golden/collie, some think lab/golden/husky, and some think lab/golden/shepherd.  It's my long, fluffy and curly tail that gets them!  No one can figure out why such a nice dog stayed in a shelter for so long!

Everyone loves me and I am happy in my new home.  But I want to give a big thanks to the Congdons and WAAGR for rescuing me and finding me such a good home.  Mom says "thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Love,
Wilson

(As of June 2, 2007, we received a message from Wilson that he was certified as a Canine Good Citizen!  His mom is going to start therapy with him this fall.  Congratulations Wilson on this achievement!)
