Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways an individual or family can get involved in WAAGR! If you have a little extra time on your hands, we would love to have you help us. Volunteer members typically put in a minimum of four hours per month. Most of the opportunities listed are run by committees that meet in person and collaborate via the internet. Here are some brief descriptions of the opportunities available. Assessment - Visit and evaluate a golden retriever needing to be surrendered prior to being brought into our organization. Training is required. Education - Provide information to the general public to aid in responsible dog ownership and to reduce abuse and neglect of all animals. Financial Development - Help us to develop plans to raise funds to meet the financial needs of our rescued goldens. Foster Care - Provide a temporary (short or long-term) care for a displaced golden retriever. You will then work with the group to insure a successful match with an adoptive family. Veterinary costs are provided by WAAGR. Training is required. Home Visits - Observe and evaluate a prospective adoptive applicant. This facilitates a "good match" in helping a displaced golden find its forever home. Work with the foster homes to help place their foster dogs. Intake - Handle phone calls and initial paperwork for potential surrendered goldens. Membership - Welcome new members to our organization and provide and organize information on volunteer opportunities. Merchandising - Organize and manage our apparel and accessories. Meet & Greet - WAAGR takes its show on the road! Arrange and attend pet events to get our organizational information out to the public. These events are generally held at pet stores where we are able to bring our goldens along. Newsletter - Help to create and design a fun and informational publication. Nominating Committee - Recruit talented individuals willing to volunteer time and hold positions within the organization. Special Needs - Volunteer your time at fundraising/marketing events to raise funds to meet the need of our dogs. Transport - Provide transportation for displaced goldens from a surrendered home or shelter to their foster family. Web site - Ongoing guidance to insure a functional and educational Web site.
Wish List All of these items are things that our Foster Homes can always use. If you would like to help us help the goldens, please consider donating an item or two! Collars In addition to the
needs for our goldens, there are every day needs that the group has to
complete such tasks as distributing correspondence and helping with intake.
